Finite Element Analysis (FEA) is widely used in the automotive industry to reduce the number of actual vehicle tests and to shorten development cycle time. Accurately predicting full vehicle crash performance using FEA, while challenging, has become critical for establishing the correct fundamental crash behavior of a vehicle in the early design development cycle. Recently, the effects of forming strains and strain rate sensitivity have been recognized for accurately predicting the vehicle crash performance, and those effect shave been incorporated into crash simulations. With the advent of advanced high strength steels (AHSS), which are even more sensitive to these effects, this recognition has taken on added significance.
