We suggest a way of predicting the movie ranking before its theatrical release. We pay attention to the weekend box-office revenue to decide on the movie ranking. We estimate this value by using multiple regression analysis and decay rate and predict the ranking by sorting it. With this technique, we accurately predicted the Japanese movie ranking six weeks in advance. The precision of the proposed technique was good when we compared the ranking of the order of number of theaters with that of the proposed technique in terms of the Accuracy and the Spearman rank correlation coefficient. This information shows that the findings of this study are useful.
