摘要

Several red seaweed polysaccharides like agar, agarose and^carrageenan have commercial significance (Renn, 1997). Inoculation of carrageenan has been reported to exert antitumor activity by promoting the immune system in mice (Yuan et al., 2006). Thisstudy was undertaken to examine the immune response of white shrimp L. vannamei and its resistance against V. alginolyticus when the shrimp were received individually with carrageenans. The immune parameters including total haemocyte count (THC), phenoloxidase (PO) activity, respiratory burst (RB), phagocytic activity and clearance efficiency of white shrimp L. vannamei against V. alginolyticus were examined. In addition, L. vannamei injected individually with the carrageenans were examined for their resistance against V. alginolyticus.
