MORPHOLOGICAL AND MERISTIC CHARACTERIZATION OF A NEW INTERSPECIFIC HYBRID (PAGRUS MAJOR X DENTEX DENTEX)

Recently the role of hybridization in the development of sustainable mariculture has been discussed and many cultured fish species belonging to the family of Sparidae are subject of intensive research. Although viable hybrids have been developed between several Sparidae species, few data were reported on hybrids between males of red sea bream (Pagrus major) and females of common dentex (Dentex dentex) (Kraljevic & Dulcic, 1999). The main objective of the research was the preliminary morphological description of this new interspecific hybrid and the comparison of our results with bibliographic data of parental species.
