Recent studies show a high potential for waste heat recovery with the purpose of power generation [I], [2]. These investigations include both converting low-temperature heat to power and using high-temperature waste heat sources. A broad growth potential is related to waste heat recovery of energy-intensive production processes like in metallurgical, chemical or cement industry. Based on data of 2004, Hamm et al. [1] quantify the world-wide potential of waste heat with 1531.7 TWh/a. For Germany the value is 42 TWh/a. Regarding the estimated boundary conditions of this study an installed electric capacity of 687 MW would result.
