In the present work, the amount of benefits from interconnected systems is examined quantitatively in 10 models of the interconnected system among Cambodia, Laos, Thailand and Vietnam. The quantitative analysis contains a reliability improvement aspect and a reduction in fuel costs aspect. In calculation of each effect, we use the planning assistant tools (RETICS: Reliability Evaluation Tool for Inter-Connected Systems, PDPAT II: Power Development Planning Assist Tool) that the Tokyo Electric Power has developed. Every model shows benefits from the interconnected system in 2015. The reduction in reserve capacity of the models of the interconnected Thailand and Vietnam systems is larger, because they have the sufficient system scales for utilization of mutual reserve capacity. The models that interconnected the Laos system among the mentioned beneficial models have rendered greater fuel cost savings because the potential hydropower in the Laos system can be utilized in other systems. The sustainability of benefits has also been confirmed for 2020.
