We present a concise methodology for estimating the moments of the breakthrough curves for reactive tracers as a function of the temporal moments for conservative tracers. The methodology, based on a Lagrangian approach to solute transport in heterogeneous media, can be applied to many flow configurations and to a large variety of mass-transfer rate-limited processes. When both the flow configuration and the correlation models for hydrological and geochemical parameters (and their cross-correlation) are fixed, the temporal moments are given in closed form. The solutions here presented can be used for prediction purposes as well as for interpretation of tracer tests when both conservative and non-conservative tracers are injected.
