As world markets are becoming more customer driven and increasingly turbulent The only solution for manufacturing organisations to survive is to respond rapidly, nimbly and quickly (i.e. agility) to market changes. In this paper, a preliminary framework for manufacturing system modelling and configuration is proposed to help manufacturing organisations to attain rapid responsiveness in an agile manufacturing environment This framework uses a novel agent based modelling approach, termed as Autonomous Agent Network (AAN). Manufacturing systems will be modelled, configured and simulated by AAN to obtained an optimal system configuration that enables manufacturing system to cope with ever changing market environment.
