Targeted drug delivery is desired in cancer therapy since most of the side effects common to chemotherapy are related to the toxicity of the drug. Integrin over-expression has been shown in various cancer cells and can be exploited for targeted drug delivery. Polymers conjugated with Arg-Gly-Asp (RGD) peptide can encapsulate poorly-water soluble drugs, and target theα_vβ3 integrin, thus it could be a promising approach for targeted drug delivery. The Pluronics (PEO-PPO-PEO) have generated significant interest for drug delivery application due to their ability to form thermoreversible gels. The goal of our study is to design amphiphilic conjugates with targeting RGD peptide as a targeted drug delivery carrier. In this report, we describe a novel method for the modification of Pluronic P105 with RGD peptide for the possible application in drug delivery systems.
