Studies of a number of Cu(II),Ca(II),Zn(II)and Mn(II)complexes of benzoate derivative ligands having an NH AAA O hydrogen bond between carboxylate oxygen and neighboring amide NH have revealed that the NH AAA O hydrogen bond protects the metal-carboxylate bond from dissociation with water due to a shift in the pKa of the conjugated carboxylic acid.Poly(carboxylate)ligands,-{CH_2 CH(CH_2 NHCO-R-COO-)}_n-(R:CH_2 CH_2,CH=CH,o-Ph)have a strong 7-membered ring intramolecular NH AAA O hydrogen bond that also gives the stable binding of the polymer ligand to vaterite CaCO_3 crystals
