Fourier Transform Infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy is a technique for investigating the functional group properties of materials. One of the most widespread analytical tools, FT-IR spectroscopy is so versatile that it is used in the vast majority of chemical laboratories around the world. However, although FT-IR spectroscopy is excellent at elucidating the chemical functionality of materials, only a bulk measurement is made, without separation of the sample into component parts. In the case of complex polymer blends and co- polymers, significant information about the sample heterogeneity cannot be elucidated by FT-IR spectroscopy alone.
