Ramie is easily wrinkled, stiffer and more brittle than flax fibres and cotton because of its high crystallinity. Therefore, resin finishing is suitable to overcome the poor wrinkle recovery properties of ramie. The introduction of formaldehyde type crosslinking agent provided the easy-care garments such that the garments became crease resistant but they were not free from toxicity. The release of formaldehyde containing resin is a potential carcinogenic substance since formaldehyde is generated during the crosslinking processes. As a result, formaldehyde-free crosslinking agents for textile material has becoming a focus in the textile and clothing industries. The use of polycarboxylic acids is one of the solutions for the formaldehyde-free crosslinking agents for textile material [1-3]. With the presence of catalyst, the polycarboxylic acid type crosslinking agent can form crosslinks with cellulosic fibres, thereby improving the properties of the fibres.
