UK businesses delivering asset management overseas (does good asset management travel?)

This paper addresses some of the issues a company faces when considering moving its home Asset Management operation into new and unfamiliar territories. The paper is based on the experience of UK based companies trying to address overseas markets but could equally well apply to any company based in a country where business drivers and issues such as environment, safety and employment legislation are similar to those found in the UK. The paper is based on experience in infrastructure based industries, primarily utilities. The paper reviews some of the business, social and cultural issues that may be faced and identifies some areas of risk that may cause a company to think again before committing to an overseas investment or operating contract. The points expressed in this paper represent a personal view based on experience in a number of countries cultures over the last few years. They should not be taken to represent the corporate views of British Power International Ltd. or ERA Technology Ltd.
