Attempts to commercialize pyrolysis of scrap rubber have been unsuccessful because the quality of the quality of the heterogeneous pyro-char was not commercially competitive as a reinforcing filler with virgin carbon black.Ongoing developments integrating state-of-theart thermal and mineral processing technologies have produced an upgraded pyrolyzed carbon black that has competitive reinforcing properties to virgin carbon black in various rubber compounds.
