Motivated by helicopter lag damper applications,a one-dimensional model in pure shear was developed to capture the nonlinear thermoviscoelastic properties of an elastomer. This time-domain model is based on the nonlinear Anelastic Displacement Field (ADF) approach. The linear theory of ADF accounts for frequency (and temperature) dependence in viscoelastic materials.Additional rate-dependent non-linearities (viscous non-linearities in ADF) address the experimentally observed frequency-independence of dynamic mechanical properties at higher amplitudes.
