The use of Design History in product development is important to achieve successful designs. Design intent is a highly significant part of the design history of a product, and is fundamental to successful product development. Design intent is described as the intention the engineering designer has for his designs i.e., "What" changes were done in the past? "Why" those changes were done? What is the "value" of these changes? The use of this information will provide support to the engineering designer in the decision making process. This paper proposes a method of modelling design intent using computational tools considering changes in nine key design views.
