Accounting for corporate culture in the engineering design process

In seeking to transfer and extend the benefits of formalised engineering design to a broader range of enterprises at the engineering and business project levels, the research reveals that issues of corporate culture must be addressed. We review and contrast models of organisation culture in parallel with the benefits of the rigour of engineering design. There are difficulties in applying both DFD and the ended DFD-M methodology to types of organisation for which these engineering disciplines were not originally conceived. We now demonstrate how Dilemma Theory can he extended to provide a framework for integrating the original goals of DFD disciplines with the different characteristics of different types of organisation.
