摘要

A current state-of-art in developing analytical models that designers of mechanical components can confidently use to predict tribological performance of sliding components is reviewed. The need for a new approach is postulated as it is obvious that previous efforts in modelling friction and wear have not kept pace with most other engineering design areas. All major analytical models and equations available in open literature are analysed and assessed as to their suitability for predicting friction and wear of mechanical components.
