The fine blanking technique was applied to make non-circular holes in CFRP and ArFRP laminated composite plates. Experimental results showed that the fine blanking technique was valid both for CFRP and for ArFRP to some extent. The mechanism of processing was also discussed on the basis of microscopic observation. Rivet joints with a non-circular hole was proposed as an application of the fine blanking technique. The strength of elliptic rivet joint was about 15-40 % higher than that of conventional circular rivet joint.
