An electric double-layer capacitor (EDLC) is a supercapacitor that has fast charging-discharging rates, long life cycles and higher energy density compared to other capacitors. However, compared with batteries, EDLC has much lower energy density. There are EDLCs using activated carbon as an electrode and porous carbons have been used as the electrode material in EDLCs with their relatively low cost and very high specific area. In this experiment, corn grain is used to produce porous carbon because the material has a great specific surface area and because there is an oversupply of corn in Thailand.
