(1) Through analysis and improvements, we reduced the leakage, and achieved the response and phase holding targets. (2) By adding a locking mechanism that utilizes the engine hydraulic pressure characteristics, the occurrence of the rattling noise during the starting of the engine has been prevented. By obtaining the aforementioned development results, it has become possible to adopt the vane-type VVT-i actuator on the inline 4-cylinder ZZ type engine produced in May 1998. We are currently planning further deployment of this system.
