Proper handling techniques with regard to powder handling in the P/M industry is receiving far more attention than it did in previous years. This is being driven by the needs of the automotive industry for greater part consistency, more reliable operations, and improved material yields. The result of this attention is powder and part producers are reviewing their operations, identifying opportunities to improve powder handling, and implementing changes that deliver real value to their customers. Common powder flow problems will be briefly reviewed, along with proven techniques for approaching and eliminating these problems. GKN Sinter Metal' s success using these approaches will provide a case for the value created when these problems are eliminated.
