HPGR BENEFITS FOR GOLD MILL DESIGN EXPERIENCE FROM A COPPER OPERATION

High pressure grinding rolls are now state of the art for liberating diamonds from the matrix and for grinding iron and chrome concentrates. For the comminution of very hard and highly abrasive gold and copper ores, the demands on the wear protection system are far higher. The systems available today ensure that satisfactory and economical operation is achieved. Process-technological expectations, such as product fineness, output and energy conversion have been achieved, and sometimes even exceeded in industrial installations. The metallurgical advantages have been repeatedly proven on a laboratory scale. Trials on an industrial scale are one of the next steps. Once this is also proven in an industrial application, it is reasonable to conclude that high-pressure interparticulate comminution will be one of the "mine-making technologies", comparable to innovations such as autogenous grinding, heap leaching, CIP, whole ore roasting and whole ore pressure oxidation.
