Lone Tree and Hunter Hawk looked for the simplest solutions to extend part life. By working closely with all facets of Lone Tree's autoclave maintenance department and direct communication with Hawk's technical people, improvements were made and continue to be made today. Superintendents, planners, operators, engineers, technical directors, and mechanics were consulted for suggestions on how to improve the valve seats and cones. All related operational experiences were compiled, researched, and finally used to develop and manufacture better, longer lasting parts. After many years of working with the petrochemical, oil refining, marine, and power industries, the people at Hunter Hawk have come to understand that the theoretical engineering formulas used to design products may not always mirror what is actually taking place in the field. Perfection is usually only achieved in the laboratory under the most positive circumstances. Having Lone Tree's goal in sight and working with people who value and build on experiences, both successes and failures, is and will continue to be required to achieve the desired positive results. The most valuable tool available in cost reduction is focused problem solving through honest and direct communication, whether in-house or with a vendor. Lone Tree Mine will continue to increase productivity by utilizing partnering arrangements based upon communication for constant improvement.
