Heifers should calve at 23-24 months of age and heifers that calve early in the calving season wean more and heavier calves during their lives. Heifers, therefore, should be bred at 14-15 months of age. Fertility is increased if heifers have 1-2 estrous cycles before breeding, thus heifers should reach puberty at 12-13 months.
