This paper presents the seismic proving test results of a process computer system and seismic evaluation of a magnetic disc drive used in the process computer. Vibration tests using seismic wave excitation were carried out to investigate the dynamic behavior and the failure mode of the process computer system. By undertaking failure mode analysis for the computer system, magnetic disc drive was found to be an equipment needing special attention. Seismic response analysis of the magnetic disc drive was carried out to evaluate the offtrack response of magnetic disc head using the transfer function including its feedback control. Calculated response offtrack was found to be close to the test results. Finally, the functional capability of the process computer system was verified through the tests.
