Using the MIKE21 hydrodynamic model, the tidal level change process in the Yangtze River estuary during runoff, astronomical tides and storm surges was simulated. According to the simulated tide level data, the tidal level variation law and trend for the Yangtze River estuary are analyzed by the empirical orthogonal function (EOF) analysis method, and the influencing factors are explored. The special coefficient and principal component (PC) are separated from the sea level data. The results show that the three most influential factors of the EOF analysis main component contribution rate are discharge, mean sea level and storm surge.
