Energy policy in the European gas sector revolves around the objectives of competitiveness, competition, security of supply and sustainability. The interna! gas market aims at providing European consumers competitively priced, and secure gas supplies. The Third Energy Package adopted in 2009 sets the basis for the internal gas market. Following the Third Energy Package the EU has completed the gas Network Codes and entered their implementation and monitoring phase. In the interim, other regulations have complemented this package, including Regulations on guidelines for trans-European energy infrastructure (Regulation 347/2013), on security of gas supply (Regulation 994/2010, which has been reviewed and amended by Regulation 2017/1938) and on energy markets and information transparency (REMIT Regulation 1227/2011).
