Critical material damage in statistical problems is related to the safety factor in deterministic problems. Micro structure damage is calculated as the probability of random stress in a microstructure element exceeding the random strength. A relationship between the critical microstructure damage and the safety factor is found for alternating coefficients of variation of structural stress. The safety factor is also influenced by the correlation of micro structure characteristics in the ensemble of points. The increase of the safety factor corresponds to the reduction of the critical damage acceptable for operation of the structure.
