The current changing society has led to European universities to an adaptation process where the determining factor is the training of individuals in a multidisciplinary way. In this context, the University Jaume I of Castello is reorganizing its studies to meet the European requirements of competence-based learning. In 2011, the degree in Medicine was implanted, in this university. The design of a new degree is an excellent opportunity to incorporate new learning strategies different from classical teaching methods. This new teaching-learning tools, based on self learning allows the development of new skills in the students. There are different techniques such as role-playing that simulates real-life situations. In the application of this technique, a real-life case is proposed in which the students have to take an active role to achieve a final solution. The evaluation is then made based on steps taken, application of theoretical knowledge and, of course, the final solution achieved. The application of role-playing in Medicine involves the development of skills such as teamwork, decision making, problem solving and conflict resolution which are fundamental in the training of future doctors and helping them in solving real clinical cases.In this sense, Human genetics is a fundamental subject in the first year of study in the degree. In this subject, the objective is the understanding of the role of genetics on disease and learn the diagnostic techniques used in clinical tests. Furthermore, a medical doctor should be able to fluently communicate with the patient. It is generally accepted that a successful patient recovery is dependent on how well patients understand their illness and their attitude towards the disease. For this reason, it is proposed that the role-play activity focuses on the resolution of some clinical cases as well as the interaction with other colleagues and the patients. The objective of this activity is to delve into different aspects of a problem through a more dynamic and interactive methodology, emphasizing on the doctor-patient relationship.
