(2094) A NEW APPROACH IN COMPUTER SCIENCE EDUCATION TO ENSURE OPTIMAL EMPLOYABILITY OF GRADUATES AND TO REDUCE DROPOUTS

A relatively high rate of dropouts among Computer Science students is a common problem at universities worldwide. Companies in all fields of Information Technology are looking for employees. and increasingly try to attract students. In the third year of the bachelor′s program computer science at the university of Applied Sciences Technikum Wien around 90% of all students already work besides their studies. In the master′s program Software Engineering the number is almost 100%. To minimize the rate of drop outs, a curriculum was developed that integrates work with selected companies as a part of the study program. These types of curricula have been introduced in Austria in the last years and are called “Integrated work/study degree program”. Approximately one third of the learning objectives are being taught while working in the partner companies.
