Overbased Calcium Sulfonate (OBCS) Grease has received growing attention in recent years especially in the North America Market. It's production has grown more than three folds from 1.3% in 2009 to 5.4% in 2012, according to a recent NLGI survey. Today, despite a great deal being known about how to produce good quality OBCS grease, its production remains in the hands of only a few grease manufacturers. It is also known that OBCS grease has an inherent tendency toward rheological changes (softening and hardening) attributed to its unique thickener network.
