This study investigated the basic combustion characteristics in a metal fiber burner. Metal fiber burners have been used owing to high efficiency, low emission and the extension of flammability limit. Main parameters of this study are thermal power (204, 255, 306, 357, 408 kW/m~2) and equivalence ratio (0.4-1.3). The fuel and the oxidizer were used the propane with commercial grade and the compressed air. In this study, the flame mode is divided according to the shape of the flame. First, the blue flame mode appears relatively at lean conditions. Second, the radiation mode turns up near the stoichiometric ratio. Finally, the pool flame mode is shown relatively at rich conditions. In the case of the blue flame mode, the flame has a low surface temperature, efficiency and CO, NO_x emission, while the flue temperature was high. For the radiation mode, the surface temperature and efficiency is high. But, it is confirmed that the increase of the CO, NO_x emission is relatively larger than the blue flame mode. Finally, the pool flame mode represents relatively a lower temperature and efficiency compared to the radiation mode.
