Polypropylene (PP) non-woven fabrics were coated with polypyrrole (PPy) using an in-situ chemical polymerization method for electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding. Their microstructure was observed using a scanning electron microscope (SEM). The mass change in the fabrics was obtained by weighting the fabric before and after PPy coating. Surface resistance of PPy-coated fabrics was characterized by a two-probe method with a multimeter. The influence of the polymerization temperature, monomer concentration and deposition times on EMI shielding properties was systematically researched. The results show that the polymerization of PPy in an ice bath, higher monomer concentration and increase in deposition times help to improve EMI shielding effectiveness (SE). The EMI SE of fabric with PPy coating reached 12.4 dB, which can shield 94.3% of electromagnetic (EM) energy. In addition, the shielding mechanism was analysed by comparing the absorptivity and reflectivity and absorption is the main shielding mechanism.
