The phenomenon of the precieuse: women's style in the 17th century French culture

摘要

In the texts of XVIIth century French writers Moliere and Saumaise we find the examples of expressions from the 《precieuses》 salons of Mme de Rambouillet and Mme de Scudery. Their analysis suggests that the specificity of women's education at that time determined the use of periphrasis based on the prescriptions about metaphor in Aristotle's 《Poetics》.
