AMALGAMATING UDOT ITS DATABASES TO EVALUATE CORRIDOR STRATEGIES AND PROJECTS

The Utah Department of Transportation is continuing to develop performance metrics to help leaders make informed decisions, increase its transparency to the public, and prioritize projects. There are several departments within a state Department of Transportation (DOT) and each department's management strategies affect different causes of congestion. Aligning strategies with objective results provides a feedback loop. UDOT will leverage the data collected for weather, lane closures, incidents, speed, and volume on the freeway system by identifying the primary contributors of congestion. Comparing the amount and cause of congestion along a freeway allows decision makers to evaluate management strategies accurately and objectively. The public will be able to access these metrics to better understand where congestion is occurring and why. Linking the databases together will provide growth or decline trends of delay from congestion contributors.
