Chemical Equations are examples of a first law of thermodynamics mass balance. The first law basically says that input must equal output at steady state. Combustion is considered to be the rapid oxidation of a substance, usually accompanied by a visible flame. 1. The rusting of iron is not considered to be combustion. 2. The burning of a candle is considered to be combustion.
