We have designed and developed a new field assembly wavelength selective termination (FAT) in which a high-cutoff optical filter is embedded. The conventional FAT that we currently employ cannot be applied to all services because of its insufficient cut-off characteristics, which depend on the transmission systems and equipment that we use. This paper describes the structure and reliability of our new high-cutoff FAT, which is designed to have cutoff characteristics that are 20 dB higher than those of the conventional FAT.
