Now that computer based pipe and valve sizing has become common place, the logical next step is to define the mass flow required per evaporator and use that as a basis for a computer aided design. In the industrial refrigeration industry, evaporators with re-circulated bottom feed, orificed, coils currently command a majority market share and have for at least three decades. This paper deals with that particular coil design as it relates to the past and future of Hot Gas Defrost.
