PRESENT SITUATION OF GEOSYNTHETICS STANDARDS : FROM EUROPEAN REGULATIONS ON CONSTRUCTION PRODUCTS TO NATIONAL TECHNICAL REGULATIONS

Geosynthetic is a generic term describing a product where at least one component is polymeric, used in contact with soil and/or other materials in geotechnical, enironmental and civil engineering applications. Construction Products Regulation (CPR) is to ensure reliable information on construction products in relation to their performances providing a common technical language. Among all construction products, geosynthetics are subjected to harmonized European standards as well to be applied by manufacturers when declaring the performance of their products. The CE mark is a claim that a particular construction product can be legally placed on the market of members states of the European Economic Area. Besides the harmonized European standards, which are mandatory, National Technical Regulation can be introduced in order to better define the geosynthetic’s properties for each application field.
