(cest2017_00628) Public Perception on Measures Needed for the Ecological Restoration of Grecian Juniper Silvopastoral Woodlands

The purpose of the study was to explore the views of socialgroups operating around the silvopastoral woodlands of theEU priority habitat type *9562 Grecian Juniper Woods andthe formulation of measures that will contribute to theecological restoration of the habitat type. The first phase(February 2014) was conducted with questionnairesaddressed to social groups in the region. The PrincipalComponent Analysis showed that the main factors formingthe perception of social groups are (a) the advantages andbenefits of the habitat type (15.79%), (b) threats (14.91%),(c) interdisciplinary complementarity of livestockmanagement and Forestry (9.24%), (d) cost effectiveness(8.61%), (e) present condition (8.57%), and (f) directdegradation of wood-standing capital (7.48%). The secondphase (June 2016) included a simulation exercise on theinstitutional environment of a LIFE+ project activities andheld within a summer school. It was found similarity in thefactors which determine the attitude of the two groups(society, institutional groups) with emphasis on theeconomic benefits and the interdisciplinarycomplementarity of livestock management and forestry.
