The hydroesterification process has been investigated as analternative to alkaline transesterification. This processconsists of two associated steps, the hydrolysis step inwhich the triacylglycerol molecules are hydrolyzed to therespective acids and then the esterification step in whichthe fatty acids obtained in the first step are esterified withthe desired alcohol. In this context, this work shows theresults related to the enzymatic hydrolysis step of themacaw pulp oil using the enzyme extract from castor beanseed and subsequent esterification using HPW/Nb2O5catalyst. The results showed that the enzymatic hydrolysisusing enzymatic extract presented conversions of 45.81%in the hydrolysis of macaw pulp oil resulting in ahydrolyzate with 83% of free fatty acids (FFA) in 4h. Thetests were performed using reaction conditions of 35°C, pH4.5 and shaking of 1000rpm. The esterification stepemploying HPW/Nb2O5 showed conversions of 97% underthe reaction conditions of 250°C, stirring of 700rpm,hydrolyzed ethanol ratio of 1:40 and 15% of the catalyst.
