S-1/CDDP/Lentinan Combination Chemotherapy for Inoperable Advanced Gastric Cancer

Orally administered S-l has been reported to show significant anti-neoplastic effects in cases of advanced gastric cancer, and even greater effectiveness has been reported when the drug is administered in combination with cisplatin (CDDP). On the other hand, Lentinan has also been reported to extend the survival period of advanced gastric cancer patients when it is administered in combination with S-l. In the present study, combination chemotherapy with S-1/CDDP/Lentinan was administered to patients with inoperable advanced gastric cancer,Oand the validity and safety of the treatment andOits effect on the QOL of the patients was evaluated. The response rate in the 10 registered patients was 100%. The critical side effects (grade three or above) were anemia and pigmentation of the skin, which were encountered in one patient each. Improvement of the QOL was also observed in the patients following combination chemotheraphy with the above regimen, including Lentinan. In patients with inoperable advanced gastric cancer, S-l/CDDP combination chemotherapy has been shown to be highly efficacious, and a greater and more sustained improvement of the QOL was observed with the addition of Lentinan to the treatment protocol.
