The Town of Davie, FL, evaluated the feasibility to upgrade its existing Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) to a tertiary treatment plant to promote indirect potable reuse via direct recharge to the Biscayne Aquifer. The feasibility of groundwater aquifer recharge is required to be in compliance with the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) and Broward County Environmental Protection Department (BCEPD) regulations. In addition to the existing standards that are set for the conventional water quality parameters removal of emerging contaminants is considered important for public acceptance of indirect potable reuse applications. AECOM conducted an advanced treatment pilot and bench scale study for the Town consisting of Ultrafiltration (UF), Reverse Osmosis (RO), Ultraviolet Light (UV) and Ultraviolet Light/Hydrogen Peroxide (UV/H_2O_2) treatment processes. This manuscript presents the results of the UV/H_2O_2 bench scale study conducted for the Town.
