Based on a new enhanced Hilbert-Huang Transform (EHHT) recently proposed by the authors, a method for output-only identification of natural frequencies of linear structures is presented. In this method, by determining the averaged marginal spectrum of the measured response data of a linear structure, the natural frequencies of the structure with high resolution are identified. In order to verify the proposed method, ambient response data of a 15-story building are analyzed in a case study in which the first three natural frequencies of the building in each east-west, north-south and torsional directions are identified with high accuracy. The proposed identification method by employing EHHT and inherent ability to change a smoothing parameter to achieve the better resolution and accuracy for the identified frequencies may observe different results and compare them to ensure that the best available results are determined. Regarding to simplicity of this method, it can be applied as an efficient tool for identification of different type of structures.
