Moment resisting frames are widely used as lateral resisting systems in seismic active area. In this paper, comparative studies on seismic performance of different types of steel moment resisting frames subjected to near field earthquake are performed by using Incremental dynamic Analysis. Incremental Dynamic Analysis (IDA) is a Powerful method that offers thorough seismic demand and capacity prediction capability by using a series of nonlinear dynamic analyses under a multiply scaled suite of ground motion records, far field or near field. In this paper, a complete walkthrough of the methodology is used for 10-story steel moment-resisting frame with different types (special and intermediate) designed based on third edition of Iranian Seismic Code (Standard No.2800) subjected to near fault ground motions. Three type of intensity measure is used for the near fault IDA curves. A comparison is made for the Special and Intermediate steel moment resisting frames performance using Incremental Dynamic Analysis method. A better performance is observed for the special moment resisting frames compare to intermediate ones.
