Label free quantitative proteomics of formalin fixed embedded (FFPE) tissue sections from temporal giant cell arteritis patients

These preliminary results demonstrate the feasibility of utilizing FFPE archival diseased tissue sections for label-free quantitative proteomic analysis. Though not absolute the label-free quantitation provides a better insight into the protein expression level within the diseased artery section. Laser capture selection of giant cells from the diseased tissue may provide more precise information. Larger pools of samples are required to eliminate patient to patient variability. The global proteome profile emerging from this study may indicate a system-wide induction of oxidative stress and protection of dysfunctional mitochondria.
