While research indicates that CIs are less suitable for transmitting several salient features of music in comparison with speech, many parents of pediatric CI recipients hope that their children will be able to participate successfully in educational, aesthetic, and social aspects of music instruction. This paper relates research trends regarding music perception of CI recipients on key structural features of music with musical tasks required for successful participation in formal musical training.
