SEISMIC VULNERABILITY: A GROWING OBSTACLE TO SUSTAINABLE HUMAN SETTLEMENTS IN DEVELOPING COUNTRIES

Each year since its meeting in 1999,our PMP has analyzed different topics where the terms "Limits to Development" have some sense, for instance: the megacities and their demographical and territorial expansion, their problems in hydraulic infrastructure, transportation, and energy, the safe disposal of garbage, the migration to and from urbanized areas or countries, the impacts of climatic change, desertification, or other natural disasters against their sustainability. This time, I want to explore the obstacles that major earthquakes put to the sustainable development of human settlements.
