Most cats that are diagnosed with hypertension (including those that have target organ damage, such as blindness) also azotaemic chronic kidney disease (CKD). It is generally assumed that in these cats hypertension has developed have azotaemic ondaryto renal disease, rather than hypertension being the antecedent event. However, since in many cats the diagnoses of hypertcnsion and renal failure are made concurrently, it is difficult to determine cause and effect.
